Dawn (The Sun Rises and The Night Fades)

In the mirror is a painting,
I've let others in my life paint it
Their palette was unoriginal,
It only used a single, dominating color:
The only color that I know anymore,
Red. Hot blood, a crimson red.
Laughing at me because they hate me,
They've given me their gifts,
They've taught me to hate.
(Or was I born with it?)
They've taught me to hate myself,
They've taught me to hate others,
They've painted a picture of me so horrible
I cannot help but look.
They've taught me of misery,
They've taught me of pain,
Showing me my dreams,
and crushing them before me.
These were once the things
that would drive me to tears,
But now now only twisted laughter fills my ears.
They say I will be lonely,
They say I will never love or be loved
They say I should hate the world
because it is only evil.
Fuck them.
I drag the gun that the Angel of Death
has given me to myself, I hold it out in front of me,
I point it and I let go, letting it fall forever into the sea,
caught up in the waves, unable to control its fate.
So very much like me.
I break the mirror, breaking myself
or the self that others have made of me
Releasing my sorrows, I am able to walk away
And I am weeping, because even that self was someone,
I have no identity, and I know not who I am,
until someone finds me, I'll stay my lost and broken self,
But they were right, because no one wants to fix something that is broken
No one wants to help those who need
No one wants to feel the pain of another
This is what makes the world a horrible place,
I love it sometimes, other times it nearly breaks me,
(Can you break something that is broken? Yes.)
But I am standing on the island, alone and shattered, but calm.
Surrounded by an ocean of hatred, where I had most nearly drowned
Alone and broken, still waiting to be found.
